Armenia has encouraged its American partners to reactivate dialogue with Georgia to discuss the potential benefits for Tbilisi from the unblocking of transport communications in the South Caucasus. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Vahan Kostanyan, commenting on the recent diplomatic activity of the United States in the region.
According to him, the recent visits of high-ranking US officials to Yerevan and Tbilisi were interconnected and aimed at coordinating positions on this crucial regional issue, reports "Armenpress". Specifically, during the visit of the delegation led by US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Allison Hooker to Armenia, another State Department representative, Jonathan Askonas, was in Tbilisi. Kostanyan emphasized that the discussions by the American side in Georgia were also coordinated with Armenia.
"The possibilities of how Tbilisi can also benefit from the overall unblocking processes were discussed with Georgia," the Deputy Minister noted.
Vahan Kostanyan also stressed that the initiative to resume dialogue with Georgia came from the Armenian side itself. Yerevan has long been drawing Washington's attention to the importance of this issue, insisting that Tbilisi's role in regional stability and economic integration is key.
"Let me also add another point: we ourselves were encouraging our partners from the United States and had been talking about this for quite a long time, that there is a need to somehow restart the dialogue with Georgia, and we are very glad that these discussions have taken place," the Deputy Foreign Minister emphasized.
